DTE Energy and Invenergy have announced the start of commercial operations at the Pine River wind project in Gratiot and Isabella Counties in central Michigan. Invenergy, a U.S.-based, privately held global developer and operator of sustainable energy solutions, developed, built, and transferred the Pine River project to DTE as a part of the company’s growing renewable portfolio and commitment to clean energy.

Pine River is the third project Invenergy has developed for DTE and the 14th wind project in DTE’s Michigan portfolio.
“Invenergy is proud to work with DTE to bring more cost-effective renewable energy online,” said Mick Baird, Senior Vice President of Renewable Development at Invenergy. “This project builds on a history of successful partnerships between Invenergy, DTE and Michigan communities to solve the challenge of delivering affordable, clean and reliable energy to customers.”
With 65 turbines generating 161.3 MW, Pine River is the largest operating wind project in Michigan as well as DTE’s most cost-effective and cost-efficient wind project to date. The project will generate enough renewable energy to power 54,000 Michigan homes and offset 300,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually – equivalent to taking 63,000 cars off the road.
“Developing more renewable energy resources is a key part of our business strategy and our commitment to reduce carbon emissions more than 80 percent by 2050,” said Irene Dimitry, vice president, Business Strategy and Development. “Projects like Pine River demonstrate our commitment to provide our customers with cleaner energy while maintaining our focus on reliability and affordability for our customers.”
Since 2009, DTE has driven investments of more than $2.8 billion in renewable energy, and the company will invest an additional $2 billion in renewables over the next five years as it more than doubles its capacity in wind and solar. By 2022, DTE will generate enough energy from renewable resources to power more than 800,000 homes.
