mm) diameter. It can mill the extremely tight flatness tolerances required for wind tower flanges as well as a surface finish of 63Ra (1.6Rm). The circular mill can be configured for milling or single-point machining as well as grinding operations.

The mill is optimized for machining heavy construction and mining equipment such as out of spec crane pedestals or slewing rings. Circular mills also are used on assembly lines in wind-tower fabrications and in field services to machine flanges to spec that may have warped in welding.

“Users in the wind energy industry, as well as machinists and field service companies who repair and maintain heavy equipment get great value from these milling machines,” says Geoff Gilmore, president and CEO of Climax Portable Machine Tools. “Because the machine can mill equipment in situ, these customers find they can machine two to three large flanges in one shift, significantly expediting machining work by cutting time up to 75% compared to single-point machine tools.”

The CM6200 portable circular milling machine features:

  • Large diameter precision bearings, and adjustable counterweights for precision balance in vertical applications.
  • Multiple mounting options, including ID/OD or face-mounted configurations, and a tubular rigid chucking system with leveling feet allow leveling the machine quickly and precisely in the flange for simple and speedy setup.
  • A center machine clearance can fit over 24-in (609.6 mm) diameter kingpins. The single point option lets users cut chamfers and seal ring grooves, and machine phonographic finishes.
  • An air grinder is available for fine-finishing sealing surfaces, and a spindle capable of drilling.

Climax also sells and rents boring machines, flange facers, linear mills and valve repair machines. Training on these machines is also available. Detailed specifications of the new portable circular mill can be found at Climax

  1. Hammer Mill machine says

A milling machine is a machine tool used to machine solid materials. Milling machines are often classed in two basic forms, horizontal and vertical, which refers to the orientation of the main spindle. Both types range in size from small, bench-mounted devices to room-sized machines. Unlike a drill press, which holds the workpiece stationary as the drill moves axially to penetrate the material, milling machines also move the workpiece radially against the rotating milling cutter, which cuts on its sides as well as its tip. rical control (CNC).
