Renewable Power Direct to supply wind power to software company, Intuit

By Michelle Froese | February 2, 2017

Renewable Power Direct, LLC (RDP) announced a new renewable supply transaction with Intuit Inc., a financial software company. Intuit has expanded its commitment to renewable energy, and is moving toward a 100% renewable supply for its Mountain View, California, global headquarters.

The new transaction provides locally produced power from the 38-MW Buena Vista Wind Farm, located in Byron, CA.

Based in Washington, D.C., RDP sources clean energy directly from renewable generators and arranges for physical dispatch to the grid.

The new transaction provides locally produced CAT 1 energy from Leeward Energy’s Buena Vista Wind Farm in Byron, CA. The 38-MW Buena Vista facility is located within 60 miles of Intuit’s Mountain View headquarters.

The innovative structure, put together by RPD, creates an auditable contract and scheduling path from the generator to Intuit’s headquarters. The physical power will be supplied by the PG&E distribution system, but each megawatt-hour consumed by Intuit will be supported by physical renewable wind power from Buena Vista and the associated concurrent renewable energy credits.

Just Energy, and its Commerce Energy subsidiary, will provide wholesale and retail services to Intuit under an eight-year structure.

“This transaction with Leeward Energy, Just Energy and Renewable Power Direct is the perfect complement to our onsite solar projects and completes the process of making our Mountain View headquarters a showcase for our commitment to renewable energy,” said Sean Kinghorn, Intuit’s Senior Sustainability Program Manager.

“The renewable energy supply solution for Intuit met some very stringent requirements and is the result of a team effort between RPD and its strategic partners, and Jones Lang LaSalle, acting as Intuit’s advisor. Most important, our solution met Intuit’s objectives,” added Mark Mancino, VP of Sales for RPD. “RPD bridges the gap between renewable energy production and customers by using its market expertise to source the right solution and partners to close this type of transaction.”
