Senvion, a global manufacturer of wind turbines, presents the Senvion 3.6M140, a new variant suitable for sites with medium wind speeds. Compared to the Senvion 3.2M122, the energy yield at wind speeds of 7.5 m/s is increased by up to 20%. Senvion has also optimized the turbine’s aeroacoustics by equipping the blades with serrations for lower sound in all operating modes.

Senvion’s new 3.6M140 wind turbine is designed for sites with medium wind speeds. The lighter weight blades (made with Senvion’s RodPack technology) are equipped with serrations for lower sound in all operating modes.
“The Senvion 3.6M140 is based on the EBC platform, which uses the innovative Eco Blade Control technology,” explains Jürgen Geissinger, CEO at Senvion. “The intelligent load management technology enables an optimized load during operation in even more challenging wind regimes.”
The design of the Senvion 3.6M140 allows quick installation due to single blade installation and an easy to install design. Its blades are produced with the innovative RodPack technology, which provides for optimized and lighter blade design as well as faster and high-quality blade production.
“The cost-efficiency of wind energy significantly depends on two main variables: the yield and design lifetime of a turbine. That’s why compared to its predecessor we increased the yield by more than 20% while extending the life time by 25% from 20 to 25 years,” said Bernhard Telgmann, Executive VP of Product & Technology at Senvion. “Furthermore, the Senvion 3.6M140 features Senvion’s ‘Next Electrical System’ with a power upgrade to 3.6 MW.”
In 2016, six years after introducing the first 3.XM turbine to the market, Senvion has a track record of 765 Senvion 3.XM wind energy turbines and amounts to 2.5 GW installed of this product type alone.
“By extending our product portfolio with this new variant, Senvion is taking another step towards tailor-made solutions for our customers,” added Geissinger. “The upgrade to medium wind speed sites will open additional sites where our customer can apply this top of the line technology product. The140 meter rotor diameter and the upgrade to 3.6 MW will allow additional output at the same site.”
