Renewable energy consultancy, SgurrEnergy, recently opened a new office in Austin, Texas, as part of a three-year expansion plan.

Texas has the largest number of operational wind farms in North America, providing a key market for the delivery of SgurrEnergy’s expertise in optimization, risk management, and operational management, says the company. In addition, SgurrEnergy’s Galion Lidar, a laser-based wind measurement and characterization device, has been deployed across North America and in Texas on both operational and developing sites for feasibility and optimization measurement campaigns.

“Texas is the national leader in wind energy, with more installed capacity than any other American state,” says Tony Giustino, business development manager for the Austin office. “SgurrEnergy’s Austin office gives us an ideal base to work with clients on optimizing their operating wind energy investments and successfully developing new ones.”

The three-year expansion plan, announced in 2012, has seen staff numbers more than double from 90 to over 200 with new offices launched in Brazil and Norway in 2012, Germany in 2013 and South Africa earlier in 2014.

With over 12,000 MW of current installed capacity, Texas is home to over 100 wind farm projects, six of which are in the top 10 wind farms by capacity in the U.S.  It is anticipated that installed capacity will reach 18,000 MW by the end of 2015 and the solar market is expected to follow suit, with several GWs of developments in the pipeline.
