Sierra Club applauds Google’s 100% clean-energy announcement

By Michelle Froese | December 6, 2016

googleGoogle announced that it will achieve its goal of powering global operations entirely with renewable energy in 2017. Google represents the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy and its achievement will spur greater investment into clean, renewable energy in the U.S. and across the globe.

“The Sierra Club congratulates Google for achieving this historic milestone,” said Jodie Van Horn, Director of the Sierra Club’s Ready for 100 campaign, in response to the news.

She added: “Leadership from major corporations like Google plays a critical role in the transition to 100 percent clean, renewable energy. By transitioning global operations to run entirely on renewable energy, Google is charting a course for other corporations, institutions, cities, and communities to take bold action that will create jobs, save money, and protect families from dangerous fossil-fuel pollution.”
