The EconExpert –Wind is an Excel-based economic and financial analysis software for wind-farm projects that sell wholesale energy. Such projects are usually under bilateral contracts such as power-purchase agreements (PPAs). The software,  from Competitive Energy Insight, San Diego, Calif.,   can evaluate any U.S. domestic or international wind farm project with bank-quality reporting, and can evaluate alternative business structures and special purpose entities that use production tax credits, renewable energy credits, and other benefits these projects derive. Features include analysis of wind production profiles, Monte Carlo wind-profile simulations, sophisticated sensitivity analyses, full leveraged and unleveraged analysis, and partnership structuring. Analyses are performed from the perspective of any stakeholder in a transaction, letting users understand the economics of wind investments from any party’s viewpoint.
