The Squareness App lets users quickly perform squareness measurements with an angle accuracy to 0.001°. The perpendicularity between a horizontal and a vertical surface is measured using the ALiSensor Level, with a maximum measurement range of angles between 60° and 120°.
A company that supplies alignment equipment has announced the Squareness App for the ALiSensor Level iPad geometric measurement system.
The Squareness Application (it’s software) lets users quickly perform squareness measurements with an angle accuracy down to 0.001°. The perpendicularity between a horizontal and a vertical surface is measured using the ALiSensor Level, with a maximum measurement range of angles between 60° and 120°. The software provides 3D graphical guidance through each step of the measurement, and the angle result is displayed in the user’s unit of choice: degrees (decimal or with arcminutes and arcseconds), thou/in, in/ft, mm/m or mm/100mm.
Since the ALiSensor Level was developed under the Industrial MFi (Made for iPad) program, which integrates the iPad and other iOS devices into industrial-grade tools and equipment, adding new measurement program Apps is easily performed by downloading them for free from The App Store. “The ALiSensor Level is priced under $2,500, about 1/8th of the cost of comparable geometric measurement systems,” said President of Alignment Supplies Greg Knitz. The Industrial MFi platform lets users work with their iPads, iPhones, and iPods. By making use of existing iOS devices, R&D and production costs are radically diminished, making the product more cost-effective than similar measurement systems.
While the included 100mm fixture base for the Level can be used for squareness measurements, users can also create their own L-shape fixture for mounting it. The L-shape fixture need not be a precision 90° fixture because the Level is calibrated to the L-shape fixture in the Squareness measurement procedure, and creates its own mathematical 90° reference through a built-in calibration process.
The Squareness app can select from a wide range of measurement units, self-calibrate the Level for measurement with new or special fixtures, and even report all data from the measurement including a resulting graph. Users can also input complementary information – user, location, measurement object, and more –about the particular setup. The Level can also include a photo of the measurement object (taken with the built-in camera of the iOS device) directly in the report. The report file is easily shared like other files on any iOS device, by email, mms, and even services such as Dropbox.
All measurement program Apps for the ALiSensor Level, such as Straightness and Squareness apps, are also downloadable for free from The App Store, giving the Level more functionality without additional cost. Knitz adds that more free apps are slated for release soon, including Flatness, Plumb, and Parallel.
