Surge Accelerator would like to tutor successful energy technology startups

By Paul Dvorak | October 10, 2014

SurgeAn energy-business accelerator is now accepting applications from serious entrepreneurs to join its Spring 2015 class.

Surge is looking for entrepreneurs focused on solving large problems in the oil & gas, power & utilities, industrial, cleantech, and water sectors. The few companies that are selected will receive mentorship from the industry’s top experts, customers, and investors. Participants also receive seed capital, professional services, and access to labs.

The Surge Accelerator is a seed fund and mentor-driven accelerator that identifies, invests in, and enables entrepreneurs who are solving the world’s energy problems using technology. The accelerator ranks amongst the top 10 in the United States. Participants have raised $30M in funding, landed more than 75 enterprise customers, and created more than 200 jobs.

Based in Houston, Texas, “The Energy Capital of the World,” Surge hosts an intensive four-month boot camp to identify leaders, validate business models, raise capital, and connect its companies to the global energy ecosystems. The accelerator has recruited more than 150 of the world’s top scientists, engineers, executives, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and angel investors in the energy industry to serve as mentors.

Since its first program in Spring 2012, Surge has mentored three classes, 34 companies, that have collectively raised $30 million in follow-on funding. Five of these companies have raised Series A rounds led by institutional investors. Companies who have graduated from the program have landed more than 75 pilots and major customers, including the industry’s leading energy companies.

“We have built and proven the winning formula to help make successful energy technology companies,” says Kirk Coburn, Surge’s founder and managing director. “The entrepreneurs that have brought their A-game to Surge have landed cornerstone customers and raised significant growth capital. Do you have what it takes and are you ready?”

Applications must be submitted by October 15, 2014. To learn more about SURGE Accelerator and to apply for the program, visit www.surgeaccelerator.com.
