Eric Lethe | Vice President | Inland Technology Inc. The need for environmentally compliant processes and materials in the renewable energy industry has grown substantially as the market for clean power has matured. Even though wind turbines don’t use combustion to generate electricity, and therefore don’t produce air emissions, there are still risks of toxic…

Trends in filters and lubricants
By one estimate, 80% of all breakdowns in lubricated machines are related to pollutants in the oil. Even in small amounts, contaminants can increase operating costs associated with maintenance, downtime, or equipment replacements. Enough particles measuring only 1-μm in size (invisible to the human eye) can knock out a 20-ton gearbox. The solution: rigorous particle…
Mechanical grease can improve haptics for automotive interiors
A manufacturer of lubricants has developed a fully synthetic, high-viscosity grease for the lubrication of plastic parts inside cars. Klüber Lubrication says its Klübersynth RA 44-702 does not contain any silicone and mechanically dampens and reduces noise of slowly moving parts. The grease, which has no odor, can be used for both plastic/plastic and plastic/metal material pairings.
How are different lubricants used in wind turbines?
Manufacturers of specialty lubricants frequently add to their product lists for wind-power equipment. For instance, a recent lube, a high-performance grease, comes from a special blend of base oil and additives to cover different lubrication requirements of individual bearing applications in wind-power stations. The grease is well suited for most in-nacelle tasks. Recent ideas to…
