MidAmerican Energy announces Iowa customers will soon get 85% of power from wind, solar, one day after NV Energy’s PAC released an attack ad on Nevada’s solar industry

While Berkshire Hathaway’s MidAmerican has a ‘dream to deliver 100% renewable energy’ to customers in Iowa, according to the CEO, they seem to have a very different vision for Nevada.
anization, released the following statement after MidAmerican Energy announced that soon customers of its Iowa utility, the state’s largest power company, will get nearly all their power from renewable sources, such as wind and solar. MidAmerican also has customers in Illinois, South Dakota, and Nebraska, and is owned by Berkshire Hathaway Energy, the same parent company that owns NV Energy.
“MidAmerican Energy’s promise to meet nearly all of its customers’ energy needs with clean, renewable power from the sun and the wind is a giant step toward delivering 21st century energy solutions. They are an example for utilities across the country. We only wish Berkshire Hathaway and its subsidiary NV Energy would give Nevadans the same opportunity to chose clean power by making smart investments in Nevada’s rich solar, geothermal, and other renewable resources.
“While Berkshire Hathaway’s MidAmerican has a ‘dream to deliver 100% renewable energy’ to customers in Iowa, according to the CEO, they seem to have a very different vision for Nevada. Here NV Energy is running attack ads against the solar industry and taking every opportunity to undermine the renewable energy economy in a state that has more abundant resources than almost any other. It’s time for NV Energy to seize the opportunity that clean energy offers. Investments in homegrown Nevada energy are also an investment in cleaner air, healthier families and good jobs.”
MidAmerican’s $3.6 billion investment in renewable energy will be mostly in wind and solar energy, that require no costly and polluting fossil fuels. The company is building 1,000 wind-power turbines in Iowa as part of its commitment, which was hailed by state and national leaders from both parties; businesses large and small throughout the company’s service area; and local, state, and national conservation organizations.
