Tape sensor measures up to 10m, works on salty jobs

By Paul Dvorak | August 11, 2012

A picture of the tape measure

The WB100M is available in a range of measuring lengths from 2,000 to 10,000 mm and a wide range of analog or digital outputs including CAN SAE J1939. The linearity of the WB100M is rated up to ±0.05% full scale.

The Positape series of sensors exceeds expectations when used in areas of difficult access and where pulley wheels change the direction of a tape route. On conventional draw-wire sensors, these pulleys can reduce the life of the draw wire. The stainless stell Positape measurement tape, however, will have at least twice the life of a measurement cable under identical operating conditions.

Developed primarily for offshore oil rigs and outdoor applications, the WB100M is well suited to wet, harsh applications often found in dock sites such as cranes and ramp positions or even sluice gates found on inland waterways. Encapsulated electronics ensure that no moisture can penetrate critical areas. Water is allowed to freely flow through the mechanical areas without effect due to the use of materials that work well in a salt-water environment, resulting in the IP68/69K enclosure ratings.
