Technostrobe partners to provide new offshore wind lighting solutions

By Michelle Froese | April 25, 2018

Technostrobe

Technostrobe’s LIDS Technology tailors the intensity level of lights on a wind turbine based on the surrounding visibility. Under clear skies (10 km of visibility or more), the intensity of the lights is reduced by up to 90%. Learn more here.

Technostrobe, a Quebec-based manufacturer of obstruction lighting systems for air navigation, has acquired a majority interest in ITO Navaids, a Dutch company that specializes in marine navigation aids.

The companies plan to provide obstruction lighting for marine infrastructure and offshore wind farms.

Technostrobe believes that this transaction will facilitate entry into key European markets. It will also strengthen its role in supporting the development of offshore wind in North America.

ITO specializes in the design, production, and maintenance of solar-powered LED lighting products that are suitable for a wide range of marine aids and navigation applications.

Founded in 2001, Technostrobe markets its products in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, with clients operating in the broadcasting, wireless communication and wind energy sectors.

“Acquiring ITO Navaids accelerates Technostrobe’s growth plan,” said Francis Lacombe, VP of Technostrobe. “It enables us to open a new market in Europe, seize new and exciting business opportunities in marine navigation aids, and offer a comprehensive range of solutions in the emerging market of obstruction lighting for offshore wind farms.”
