It seems that 2015 will define a turning point in the wind-energy market. Stakeholders at least are defining a new scenario regarding the next challenge to reducing the levelized cost of energy or LCOE.
This April, in Dallas, some of those stakeholders met to share their experiences and vision. There was a clear convergence on one point as the new challenge for the wind market: data analytics.
MAKE Consulting made a bold statement about the matter: “Applying diagnostics is cheaper than any other kind of maintenance”. And GE, Siemens, and Gamesa’s delegates agreed that they expect a lot from big data tools to provide more insight into their business and to understand the improvement possibilities these new tools have to offer.

Energy companies agree: they expect a lot from big data tools to provide more insight into their business and to understand the improvement possibilities these new tools have to offer.
Another key aspect still emerging is that big data tools are not enough. They require knowledge regarding how to apply them to the wind market. Market stakeholders were confident about this. A representative from DUKE Energy stated, “the future of O&M is more about managing data than any other thing.” Companies need help with this management task. It is not about a simple analysis; it is about managing data with a business orientation.
Following this tendency, NEM Solutions believes in Business Driven Data Management, the management of data oriented to the business goals and not in the other way around. The difference that lets them do it in this way is, not only the technology to scale their turbine-health monitoring services to manage thousands of MWs, but also the fact that they have expert knowledge about the wind market and wind turbines. Thanks to this, NEM extracts otherwise unknown knowledge from the data to support decision making aimed at guaranteeing the success of complex business plans.
The wind industry has a dynamic character. Wind cannot be controlled or managed. However, working together with OEMs, operators or ISPs, our A.U.R.A tools significantly reduce the manpower needed to analyze all accessible data. A.U.R.A offers a higher control of businesses, saving valuable time for users to improve business based on knowledge and diagnosis coming from a data analysis. Thanks to a business drive, data-management strategy, users will get new extra-wind in terms of additional production.
A free webinar hosted by NEM Solutions will soon be announced in which users can learn more of the A.U.R.A approach to this market.
