These folks will monitor your wind system for you

By Kathie Zipp | June 19, 2012

S&C Electric Company offers asset monitoring services for critical electric grid equipment in wind projects. These services include PureWave CBM Condition-Based Monitoring for the company’s PureWave family of power quality products. PureWave CBM, powered by AlsoEnergy’s cloud-based software platform, can help equipment owners improve the reliability of their power systems and extend equipment life.

Additionally, S&C offers asset monitoring services for S&C automation and communications products as well as other products not manufactured by S&C, such as power transformers.

“Proper maintenance of critical equipment is essential for a reliable grid,” says Dan Girard, S&C Director—Renewable Energy. “At renewable energy plants, asset monitoring is an important first step in a proactive asset management strategy. By properly maintaining the equipment that connects plants to the grid, owners of wind farms and solar energy plants can maximize production and reduce the risk of costly disruptions to plant operations.”

S&C uses pre-installed or deployed sensors to gather real-time condition information on critical equipment, and monitors this equipment 24 hours a day at the company’s Global Support & Monitoring Center. In the event conditions fall outside normal parameters, an alert is sent to the technical experts on duty, who will then work with the asset owner to resolve the issue.

S&C’s asset monitoring services also hold tremendous value for large power users as well as electric utilities that own and operate transmission and distribution systems. Not only can such services help reduce costs, they also improve electric service reliability for end users.

“In today’s increasingly connected world, electric service reliability is paramount. It drives our economy and our quality of life,” says Wanda Reder, S&C Vice President—Power Systems Services. “Problems with critical grid assets can result in prolonged outages. S&C’s new monitoring services can help our customers identify and rapidly address issues with major equipment that otherwise could lead to costly service disruptions – along with expensive equipment repairs – if they are not addressed proactively.”
