International marine and engineering consultancy LOC Group has announced it is partnering with WavEC Offshore Renewables, a private, non-profit offshore marine energy research and consultancy association. As part of the agreement, LOC will provide its expertise on the complete lifecycle of offshore wind development, from project blueprint to operation.

The WavEC’s ROV “Frankie” can operate in almost any marine environment and retrieve images in depths down to 200m.
LOC conducted its first renewable energy projects in 2002, and is now capitalizing on its extensive experience to develop a fully focused renewables consultancy. In particular, the company is a leader in the provision of marine warranty surveying services, and has worked on more than two thirds of Europe’s offshore wind farms to date.
Pooling LOC’s expertise in offshore technology, resource measurement and O&M, amongst other areas, with the research and analysis capabilities of WavEC will benefit the industry as a whole.
Commenting on the partnership, R V Ahilan, Group Director, Renewables Advisory & Energy Technology at LOC said: “This collaboration is an important step in the development of offshore wind. The combined expertise of LOC and WavEC will help develop skills and technologies across the industry value chain.”
“We are delighted to work together with LOC, one of the major marine and engineering consultancy companies,” added António Sarmento, President of WavEC. “The pooling of knowledge and experience of WavEC and LOC will assure successful projects and a significant contribution to the industry.”
With more than 300 engineers operating in 20 countries across the world, and 40 years of transferable experience in oil and gas, LOC is aiming to triple its renewables revenue share by 2020.
LOC is a leading international marine and engineering consultancy and survey company that was founded in 1979. Headquartered in London, the company operates over 30 offices in 15 countries around the world, employing over 400 staff.
