Renewable energy consultants, UL (formerly AWS Truepower) have released its quarterly wind performance maps for Q3 2018. The maps show deviations in the wind resource from average Q3 conditions in every region of the world.
For example, wind in the third quarter of 2018 were above normal relative to the long-term third-quarter norm (1988-2014) across Scandinavia, India, Northeast China, and Central America. Winds were below-normal across Western and Central Europe, Southeast China, as well as much of the Central and Eastern United States.
UL also offers monthly Wind Trends Bulletins that are based on a custom combination of three re-analysis datasets: ERA-Interim, MERRA, and CFSR. The use of all three allows for rapid, reliable updates of global wind conditions.
Knowing the performance of the wind can help wind developers understand the performance of their wind plant. UL can help identify areas of improvement, reduce downtime, and maximize a wind plant’s energy production.
