UL releases Q4 2018 Wind Trends Bulletin

By Michelle Froese | January 29, 2019

Wind Trends Bulletin coverRenewable energy consultants, UL (formerly AWS Truepower) have released its quarterly wind performance maps for Q4 2018. The maps show deviations in the wind resource from average Q3 conditions in every region of the world.

In the fourth quarter, winds were above normal relative to the long-term, fourth quarter norm (1988-2014) across the Canadian Maritimes and Central Europe. Winds were below normal across much of the globe, including North and South America, India, and most of Europe.

UL also offers monthly Wind Trends Bulletins that are based on a custom combination of three re-analysis datasets: ERA-Interim, MERRA, and CFSR. The use of all three allows for rapid, reliable updates of global wind conditions.

Knowing the performance of the wind can help wind developers understand the performance of their wind plant. UL can help identify areas of improvement, reduce downtime, and maximize a wind plant’s energy production.
