UpWind Solutions launches LifeXSeries line that’s designed to extend asset life

By Michelle Froese | May 19, 2015

FilterMag is a magnetic oil filtration technology that extends gearbox life by reducing wear.

FilterMag is a magnetic oil filtration technology that extends gearbox life by reducing wear.

UpWind’s comprehensive O&M services now include a line of parts called the LifeXSeries that each have a longer component life, ultimately helping to extend the life of an asset. The first three parts in the series include: FilterMag, Air Filter Upgrade, and Cable Clamp System.

FilterMag
A unique magnetic oil filtration technology that extends a gearbox life by reducing wear caused by ferrous particles, improves reliability, and lowers maintenance costs.

  • Enhanced particle capture: 350% improvement in filtering ferrous particles from gearbox oil
  • Reduction in contaminants that negatively affect the oil
  • Minimize gearbox damage due to ferrous particles in the oil and ultimately reduce repair costs
  • No change in the existing filtration system or planned maintenance procedures

Air Filter Upgrade (Suitable for Gamesa G8X/G90 Turbines)
Designed to offer superior air quality and a more robust construction preventing collapse, extending the life of the filters, inverter and nacelle. Initial studies have shown an overall savings of over $250,000 on a 100 turbine site.

  • The installation time was reduced from 4 hours to 30 minutes per install due to a uniquely designed frame
  • The scheduled maintenance replacement cycle was extended to every six months compared to every six weeks
  • Longer filter life and quicker replacement times resulted in less repeat visits to the turbine
  • Protects internal components against dust, debris and particulates
LifeXSeries---Cable-Clamp-System

The Cable Clamp System reduces power loss due to cable overheat and increases cable life.

Cable Clamp System (Suitable for GE 1.5 Turbines)
The Cable Clamp System optimizes efficiency, reduces power loss due to cable overheat, and increases cable life by reducing rubbing. The three-piece system is made up of the modular and circular designed cable clamp, shell protection to protect cables from rubbing against the deck, and hinged series strip to secure cables through the Waterfall.

  • Spacing between cables dissipates heat, keeping the cables cool
  • Prevents wear to cables
  • Spring tensioners prevent clamps from sliding down cable
  • Rugged, durable material
  • Easy bolt on design
  • Allows 2.5 yaw turns

UpWind Solutions’ LifeXSeries is the beginning of a line of available parts focused around extending the life of an asset for owners. The LifeXSeries is one component of UpWind’s O&M Excellence Powered by UpWind Insight™ designed to deliver More Production, lower OpEx, and longer asset life for wind farm owners.
