Vaisala acquires Second Wind Systems, expands presence in wind energy

VaisalaGlobal atmospheric observation developer, Vaisala, recently announced the acquisition of Second Wind Systems Inc. Second Wind is a global leader in remote sensing technology and data services for the wind energy industry. The two companies’ combined expertise will bring an integrated suite of wind measurement solutions to customers around the globe.

Second Wind specializes in advanced wind resource assessment technologies. The company’s technology, including the Triton SoDAR, provides wind farm developers with dependable wind data they need to plan, finance and operate highly efficient wind generation facilities. The company is located in Newton, Massachusetts, USA.

The wind energy industry continues to evolve to effectively compete with traditional generation sources, increasing the capability and accuracy of meteorological measurements is critical to keeping pace with advancements in turbine technology.
