CDP works with market forces to motivate companies to disclose their impacts on the environment and natural resources and take action to reduce them.

Vaisala, a global provider of environmental and industrial measurement, has been recognized for the second consecutive year as one of the top companies in demonstrating a superior approach to climate change mitigation and transparent reporting.

The CDP Nordic 2015 report includes Vaisala on the Nordic Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) for the second year in a row. The CDLI includes the top 10% of the Nordic reporting companies. Vaisala earned a score of 99A- of the maximum 100A.

The high score illustrates excellence in understanding climate change risks and opportunities for Vaisala and capability in delivering high-quality information to help investors in decision making.

“Vaisala has been in the forefront of innovation and science for 80 years now. As a company, we are always looking ahead, and without a doubt climate change will pose one of the most notable challenges of our time for us all. We do not want to be a bystander, we want to actively support societies to be better prepared for climate change, with the help of our sustainable technologies. Getting this right is of great strategic importance to us,” said President & CEO Kjell Forsén.

Vaisala’s solutions are tackling climate change related issues. Concrete examples of sustainable technologies offered by Vaisala include enabling forecasting of extreme weather events intensified by climate change, bringing predictability and efficiencies to the production of renewable energy, reducing waste and improving energy efficiency in industrial applications, and protecting lives in traffic, on airports and harbors.

In September of this year, Vaisala announced its ambitious commitment to becoming a 100% renewable energy powered company by 2020. This will cut the company’s direct greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90% and more than a third of combined direct and indirect emissions.

“We have to optimize both our own resource use and at the same time enable our customers to operate more sustainably. Scoring high in indexes like CDP helps us relate Vaisala’s expertise in climate change and environmental sciences to a broad group of stakeholders,” says Tomi Rintanen, Sustainability Manager at Vaisala.
