The world’s largest manufacturer of wind turbines, Vestas, awarded four of its suppliers for helping it achieve objectives. Vestas’ annual Global Suppliers’ Day is a platform for knowledge sharing of how the OEM and its suppliers can deal with the latest wind-industry challenges in terms of capacity and quality throughout the supply chain.
Some criteria for winning includes product quality, security of supply, compliance with international health, safety and environmental regulations, as well as flexibility and development cooperation. For 2009, the Vestas supply winners are:
Eesti Energia Technology Industries, Estonia, for nacelles,
Hexcel, USA, for blades,
Leeco Steel, USA, for towers, and
Noratel AB, Sweden, for control systems.
“Only through mutual cooperation and a constructive dialogue with our suppliers will we be able to reach our goals,” says Ditlev Engel, President and CEO of Vestas Wind Systems A/S. “The aim of Vestas Global Suppliers’ Day is to develop a shared perspective and to strengthen our mutual understanding of how to meet the challenges we are facing in the industry of modern energy,” he says.
