Vestas receives 420-MW wind order in the U.S.

By Michelle Froese | May 9, 2019

The V120-2.2 MW benefits from larger rotors, according to Vestas, which delivers a higher power output at lower wind speeds

Vestas has received a new U.S. order from an undisclosed customer. The contract is for 420 MW of Vestas’ V120-2.2 MW wind turbines. The order includes supply and commissioning of the turbines.

According to the turbine manufacturer, the V120-2.2 MW turbines are built to generate more energy in stable, low or medium wind conditions, achieving AEP improvements of up to 14% (compared to its V110-2.0 MW platform). With a 19 % larger swept area , the V120-2.2 MW harvests more energy from available wind, setting a new benchmark for park level LCoE performance.

Turbine deliveries for the new project are expected in the second quarter of 2020, with commissioning expected in the fourth quarter of 2020.
