Vineyard Wind applauds New York’s new commitment to offshore wind

By Michelle Froese | January 18, 2019

Well done sign

Governor Cuomo set this ambitious new offshore wind goal in his 2019 State of the State address earlier this week.

Vineyard Wind Chief Executive Office Lars Petersen released the following statement following the announcement by the New York Governor Andrew Cuomo that the state will quadruple planned offshore wind development to 9,000 MW by 2035.

“Vineyard Wind applauds Governor Cuomo for pledging to procure 9 GW of offshore wind power. This strong signal from the governor marks an important increase of the combined commitments of the Eastern United States’ to boldly move forward with development of a new industry and a robust supply chain that will sustain the offshore wind sector for decades to come.”

Vineyard Wind LLC is an offshore wind development company seeking to build the first large-scale offshore wind energy project in the US, to be located 15 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard.
