A major component of predictive maintenance for wind turbines is condition monitoring. This sort of monitoring alerts owners and operators of developing failures so maintenance can be scheduled and issues can be addressed prior to failure. As the wind industry becomes more sophisticated with O&M, condition monitoring systems (CMS) take on a new role.
Jeff Wiener, with GE Wind Services, will discuss how condition monitoring systems can be an enabler for other technologies such as up-tower repair and how this changes the CMS business equation.
To reduce the maintenance costs on a wind turbine you must ensure you minimize consequential damage within your drive train. Ross Mackellar, from Monitek, will discuss the purpose of applying costs to consequential damage and demonstrate how condition monitoring can contribute to mitigating the consequential damage.
