I found this article on the future of wind on Treehugger.com. It features nine designs for wind turbines of the future. The designs include airborne turbines, turbines for low wind-speed sites, bladeless wind power (we’ve featured this Windstalk before!), wind turbine lenses, vertical axis turbines (we’ve covered these as well), quiet wind turbines, wind power storage, community wind power, and turbines for offshore wind. The photos are awesome. Here are some to check out:

The Altaeros Airborne Wind Turbine uses a helium-filled, inflatable shell so it can reach high altitudes. This allows accessing stronger, more consistent winds than tower-mounted turbines. Power is sent to the ground through tethers.

The Eco Whisper wind turbine has 20-kW generating capacity and is virtually silent. It's also, allegedly, more efficient.

If it flown with tethers attached in front of the inflatable part, the wind will automatically be coming from the direction of the tethers. Think of a kite.
Sir/ Madam,
So The Altaeros Airborne Wind Turbine being a horizontal axis turbine doesn’t need any of the wind direction indication?…. If needed why no trying a vertical axis..
