The charts show wind speed and power generation for a particular turbine and comes from a poster on Forecasting and Operation Assessment by a team from WindLogics. The poster tells how nacelle-mounted anemometers can be a valuable resource for forecasting and operational assessment.
An industry partnership will provide more accurate weather predictions than previously available, helping utilities integrate wind power successfully and efficiently. Telvent, a real-time IT solutions and information company for a sustainable world, says it is partnering with WindLogics to offer accurate wind-power forecasts to utility markets worldwide. Telvent already provide to utilities for load forecasting, due to its accurate temperature forecasts.
The collaboration seems well timed because as wind becomes a larger part of power portfolios, it is more important for utilities to rely on accurate data to understand how much power can be expected from wind sources and how weather conditions may affect operations. The new offering, called Wind Power Forecasts from WindLogics, is said to have the most accurate predictions available from proprietary forecasting technology. This information will let utilities better maintain system reliability and integrate wind power into their mix, thereby minimizing costs associated with variable sources.
“Utilities need a way to accurately predict the amount of power that will be generated from wind sources,” says Televent CEO Ignacio Gonzalez. “The partnership between Telvent and WindLogics will help utilities run as efficiently as possible.”
As part of the agreement, Telvent will be the exclusive provider of WindLogics’ forecasts to utilities in North America, distributing forecasts with its reliable delivery system.
