Winergy gearbox with two output shafts ready for up to 12 MW outputs

Multi Duored technology provides a relatively light 62 ton gearbox with two output shafts. In addition to the more

compact design, the two output shafts couple to two generators connected in parallel instead of to just one generator. When properly sized, each can drive a 6 MW generator.

When designing this gearbox, special emphasis was placed o

n ensuring that service can be performed as efficiently and simply as possible. In the Multi Duored gearbox, the small parts in the area of the bearings, gearing and casting parts are almost all identical. As far as the size and weight of these components is concerned, it was ensured that the capacity limits of the load cranes in the nacelle are not exceeded and also that these parts can be manufactured worldwide.

The compact design of the individual parts increases the stiffness of the gearbox as a whole. This is the reason that the gearbox runs smoothly and precisely even during fast power transients.

The gearbox can be rotated through 360° around the longitudinal axis to allow accessing for service all of the modules in the nacelle. This flexibility means all of the components are accessible and the gearbox can be completely overhauled locally. Removal and logistical costs are eliminated.

The modular design with eight times load sharing and two output shafts driving the two combined generators allows the power output to be varied. It is possible to run one generator at a higher efficiency than the other, which allows each of the generators to be run at their most effective operating points.

The Multi Duored concept can be easily scaled up to address specific requirements.

Power ratings between 3 MW and 12 MW can be realized to address different market

demands. The advantages due to lower weight and size over conventional gearbox

designs become increasingly obvious as the power rating increases.
Advantages of the Multi Duored gearbox in a nutshell:

  • High power density in a compact and light design
  • Great serviceability
  • Maintenance and service are possible without having to remove the unit from the nacelle
  • Two generators for variable power output
  • Scalable up to 12 MW
