Renewable energy consultants, AWS Truepower, have released their Wind Trends Bulletin for the month of June and for the first quarter of 2016.
Quarterly wind performance maps for Q2 2016 show deviations in the wind resource from average Q2 conditions in every region of the world. In the second quarter of 2016, winds were above normal relative to the long-term, second-quarter norm (1988-2014) across much of Canada, northern Brazil, central and eastern Africa, and parts of Southeast Asia and Australia.
Winds were below normal across the U.S, Central America, southern South America, as well northern portions of Europe.
The monthly Wind Trends Bulletin is based on a custom combination of three reanalysis datasets: ERA-Interim, MERRA, and CFSR. The use of all three allows for rapid, reliable updates of global wind conditions.
Knowing the performance of the wind can help wind developers understand the performance of their wind plant. AWS Truepower can help identify areas of improvement, reduce downtime, and maximize a wind plant’s energy production.
