The Switch launches a new utility-grade power converter

Optimal power flow control guarantees minimum losses and smooth load transitions.

The FPC+ is a utility-grade power converter that provides optimal power flow control and minimal power losses on the grid.

The Switch, a supplier of megawatt-class electrical drives for wind energy and industrial applications, has launched a new full-power converter (FPC) for utility-grade electricity production. The FPC+ concept builds on the company’s experience and an installed base of over 11 GW of power throughout the world.

Designed for the highest level performance in electricity production, the FPC+ line of converters ensures future-proof electricity quality to meet the strict international requirements for harmonics, flicker, and fault ride-through (FRT).

The converter is cost-effective and optimized to work with permanent-magnet and induction machines. Optimal power-flow control guarantees minimum losses and smooth load transitions. By reducing sensitivity to the network, The Switch’s FPC+ produces a seamless interaction with the grid — even during severe disturbances.

New micro-grid functions are also available to enhance the proven FRT.

“Our latest converter gives customers the next level in sophistication for high-quality electricity production with FRT,” says José Galvan, Product Manager, Converters, The Switch. “Based on collaboration with our customers, we are now pleased to launch this new line with exceptional grid performance.”

Because of the high power density of the FPC+, the number of panels can be reduced. Moreover, its compact size makes the converter easily adaptable to different applications. FPC+ can be configured as an inline or back-to-back solution.

The control system features a user-friendly, expandable design. The rugged IP54-class panel with easy access is designed to withstand even the harshest operating conditions.
