The U.S. Department of Energy has confirmed that Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz will speak at WINDPOWER, the U.S. wind industry’s largest annual event. This will be the first time ever that the head of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) attends the annual conference and exhibition, which will be held this year in Orlando, Florida on May 18-21.
Secretary Moniz will speak during the Welcome & Opening General Session (on Tuesday, May 19 starting at 8:30am). He is expected to discuss Wind Vision, the DOE’s definitive new report that shows how wind energy can create ample economic, environmental, and health benefits and continue to provide key contributions to the nation’s energy portfolio. He will also explore advancements in wind turbine technology that could open up economic wind opportunities in many parts of the country.
Doug Greenholz, President of IKEA Property, also confirmed he will be speaking during the Welcome & Opening General Session at WINDPOWER 2015. Greenholz manages IKEA’s 40 existing stores and support units in the U.S. He is expected to talk about IKEA’s investment in U.S. wind farms and wind energy across the globe. IKEA announced late last year the purchase of a 165-MW Texas wind farm, the single largest renewable energy investment made by the company. The company is one of many to recognize the benefits of stably-priced, affordable wind power in recent years.
