Future Wind: A Global Wind Day 2019 photo competition

By Michelle Froese | May 29, 2019

Need inspiration? Check out the winners and top picks from 2018.

Global Wind Day takes place on June 15, 2019. To celebrate and promote clean energy, WindEurope and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) have launched a global photo competition, called: “Future Wind.”

The message: tell the world that wind energy can slash emissions, improve air quality, and create thousands of jobs. And “That wind energy is the energy for now and the future,” says the GWEC. Creativity, content, composition, technique, and a compelling story behind your photograph are the key criteria for the judges.

There are four photo categories for contestants.

1. People and Wind
Wind energy boosts local economies and provides jobs, as well as improving infrastructure and supporting local communities. In this category, your photos should either show how your community is involved with wind energy or share photos from your wind farms visits.

2. Working in Wind
The wind energy industry is growing rapidly, employing over a million people across the globe. In this category, your photos should represent people working in the industry, factories or in wind installation.

3. Beautiful Wind
Wind farms signify real progress towards a sustainable energy system. Not only that, together with the natural environment they can generate stunning images. In this category, your photos should show wind energy working in harmony with nature.

4. Beyond Wind
This category is a little different. Here your photos can show something other than wind turbines. Perhaps your community has benefited from funds raised by a local wind farm, such as financial assistance to a community group, the restoration of a local park or educating children on renewable energy. In this category your photos should show a moment or tell a story behind the wind farm.

The first prize winner from each category will receive €1,000. In addition, the winning photographs will be displayed across both WindEurope and GWEC’s channels.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, June 5, 2019 (23:55 CEST). Read the terms and conditions before submitting photos.
