The first prototype of the G10x – 4.5 MW wind turbine was rolled out at the Cabezo Negro R&D wind farm in the Jaulín local authority in the Saragossa Spanish province. The turbine, from Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica, sports a 128-m diameter rotor with over 60-m blades. It sits on a 120-m tall tower made of concrete and steel. The company says its modular design, entirely designed in-house, will minimize the cost of energy using transport and installation equipment similar to that used on smaller wind turbines. The 4.5 MW units will be equipped with innovations such as two-sectioned blades to be assembled on-site and a coupled crane to simplify assembly and dismantling tasks.
