Kiwi Energy customers can now choose to offset electricity use with wind

By Michelle Froese | July 11, 2019

Watch this video to learn more about Renewable Energy Certificates.

Energy retailer, Kiwi Energy, is offering an innovative electricity plan to its Ohio and New York customers. Kiwi Clean + Wind REC matches 100% electricity with Green-e Energy Certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) sourced from national wind.

Today, there are different ways consumers can choose to power their homes with wind energy. In deregulated energy states, residents have the option to support wind energy by choosing a supplier who purchase RECs sourced from wind.

RECs are contractual instruments that represent the full suite of environmental attributes of one megawatt-hour of renewable energy generation on the electricity grid and allow buyers to demonstrate demand for the generation of clean, renewable energy.

Kiwi purchases Green-e Energy RECs to ensure that a customer’s energy usage is offset with wind power.

Green-e Energy is a program of Center for Resource Solutions, a global provider in clean energy and carbon offset certification. Their goal is to make it easy for businesses and individuals to purchase verified clean energy with confidence and for consumers to choose sustainable products and services. They also advocate for the advancement of clean energy policy, markets, and technology and believe in their economic and environmental benefits.

Kiwi Clean+Wind REC is a month-to-month term agreement with no cancellation fee.
