Mortenson Canada Corporation has been selected by Capital Power Corporation to construct the Quality Wind Project located ten kilometers northeast of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.
Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-November 2010. Mortenson will erect 79 Vestas 1.8-megawatt wind turbines (44 model V100s and 35 model V90s) on 95-meter towers generating a total of 142.2 megawatts. The project also calls for the construction of 22 km of 230kV transmission line, a 230kV sub-station, and approximately 44 km of roadway. Mortenson will provide balance of plant engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the project. This project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2012.
“We are very excited to have been selected for this unique project by Capital Power,” said Mark Donahue, vice president and general manager. “We look forward to assisting Capital Power in building a new source of clean, renewable energy for British Columbia and to leveraging our expertise in building wind power projects across Canada.”
In British Columbia, Mortenson is also working on the Dokie Wind Project near Chetwynd, British Columbia. Mortenson is erecting 48 Vestas 3.0-megawatt wind turbines providing 144 megawatts of electricity, which will be purchased by BC Hydro.
