The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) acknowledges the release of the report, Understanding the Evidence: Wind Turbine Noise by the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA). CanWEA will be fully reviewing the CCA report, which adds to the significant body of literature already available on the subject of wind turbines and human health.
The CCA report acknowledges that findings from Health Canada’s comprehensive, multi-disciplinary Wind Turbine Noise and Health study were not included in the body of evidence assessed by their expert panel. Results of the Health Canada study, one of the largest studies conducted to date on wind turbine sound and objective and measured health outcomes, clearly concludes that no association could be found between increasing levels of wind turbine sound and health effects.
CanWEA looks forward to continuing our review of the CCA research report in more detail, and will continue to monitor the scientific literature and new scientific research in this area.
The balance of scientific evidence to date continues to show that properly sited wind turbines are not harmful to human health and that wind energy remains one of the safest and environmentally friendly forms of electricity generation.
