Power cables for wind turbines

By KRemington | July 6, 2010

The 1250 KCML (1,000 circular mills and the cable’s conductor size) underground cable is available for the wind-power industry. The manufacturer is a major supplier of 34.5 kV TRXLP cable to the wind industry. The 1250, a larger size cable, is fast replacing the smaller 1000 KCML. The size change is needed as turbine generation capacity increases. Significant quantities of the 1250 size have been successfully installed. The 34.5 kV collection grid cables are available in aluminum and copper conductor. Standard conductor sizes range from 1/0 through 1250 KCML. Full and reduced concentric neutral configurations are available. All cable is dry-cure and triple-extruded in the U.S., and tested to ICEA/AEIC Standards. The cable insulation is Tree Retardant Cross-Linked (X-Linked) Polyethylene.
