ABB, a Swiss manufacturer of power transmission cables, will build a U.S. factory for high-voltage land cables. Site selection is under way. The company will invest $90 million in the facility, and expects to employ about 100 people.
“Cables play an important role in the efficiency and reliability of long-distance power transmission,” says Peter Leupp, head of ABB’s Power Systems division. ”The need to upgrade the existing transmissions in the United States, provide grid interconnections, and include more renewable power in the grid is driving demand for cables.”
