PM generator manufacturer also makes electro-hydraulic steering units, wins order

By Paul Dvorak | February 22, 2012

The EVI walk in van is powered by a 99-kWh battery that provides up to a 90 mi. range. The truck comes in Class 5 and 6 gross vehicle weights, 16,001 and 23,000 lbs.

A manufacturer of efficient and reliable permanent magnet rotating equipment, Danotek Motion Technologies, has been awarded a purchase order from Electric Vehicles International (EVI) for the supply of electro hydraulic steering units. These will be used in a fleet of walk-in delivery trucks being supplied to United Parcel Service, for deployment in California this year. Danotek also builds PM generators for the wind industry.

California-based EVI manufacturers alternative-energy vehicles, specializing in battery electric vehicles, and range-extended electric versions for applications covering a range of transportation requirements. “At EVI, our goal is to deliver the cleanest, most efficient and reliable vehicle to customers’ fleets,“ says EVI President and CEO Ricky Hanna. “The UPS delivery truck program’s test phase confirmed the performance of Danotek’s systems. We anticipate this being the first of many potential opportunities for the application of Danotek’s permanent-magnet power steering pump technology to EVI’s electric vehicles.”

Danotek’s Series 6200 Electro Hydraulic Power Steering Pump is a variable-speed unit that uses electronic controls and a high efficiency brushless motor coupled with a rugged high pressure gear pump.

The Series 6200 uses the company’s patented permanent-magnet technology targets mobile and transportation sectors for light-truck steering, utility, farm and earth moving hydraulic equipment as well as various industrial applications. It has built-in diagnostics, fault tolerance, and limp home capability.

“EVI is building great momentum in the marketplace with the excellent performance of their vehicles,’’ says Danotek’s Senior Program Manager Greg Bac. “We are thrilled to be their supplier-of-choice for one of the world’s largest deployments of commercial all-electric vehicles. This purchase order is the result of a lot of hard work and dedication by the two companies’ teams during prototype evaluation.”
