Schneider Electric Weather has released its Winter Weather Outlook and the snapshot is…

By Paul Dvorak | November 3, 2014

Schneider Electric Weather provides prediction services geared to energy providers that outlines for their customers, and  the general public, the intensity of forthcoming storms. The forecasts are specific, down to taking into account the foliage on the trees and the projected impact of snow, wind, and ice storms on the surroundings. Here are a few comments:

  • If you’re living in the Northeast part of our country, you had better dig out your snow gear and shovels – indeed, cold weather laced with extreme snow and ice are projected.  The South Central region also has an unusually excessive amount of ice and snow in store.
  • The North Central region will experience consistently frigid air with just a few streaks of mild temperatures, and lighter precipitation amounts than usual, making this year’s snowfall run about average.

SE winter outlookIf you’re in the Southeast be prepared for cooler than average temperatures combined with heavier than average rainfall. If that isn’t enough to make you stay inside, the projected severe weather storms will.

Move across the country and you’ll experience exacerbated drought conditions in the Northwest, where milder and drier weather is expected along with a few extreme cold streaks.

And the Southwest will be a study in contrasts with enhanced rain and snow in southern California, northweastward into the southern Rockies, and less than normal preciptitation in northern California, much of Nevada and northern Utah. The good news is that drought conditions will improve overall in this region.
