Tensioning bolts hydraulically

Hydraulic mounting equipment from Riverhawk Co., New Hartford, NY, consist of specialized tools for installing and removing compressor wheels, thrust discs, and hydraulically fitted coupling hubs.

The company says its bolt tensioning equipment has advantages of

  • A modular design that handles many sizes
  • Loading of studs and bolts that is accurate and repeatable
  • Closure of flanges that is faster and easier than other methods
  • Standard and custom designs

The HET (hydraulic external tensioners) are light weight, compact, and versatile devices. These bolt tensioners, operating at a maximum of 20,000 psi, use high-strength AISI 4340 steel components for long lasting performance, unless distorted.

The design accommodates different stud sizes by simply changing a puller screw, bridge, and socket, while using the same load cell. The load cell comes with either one or two quick disconnect nipples. The HET is said to be fast and user friendly whether connecting to the oil supply or connecting multiple tensioners in series. Exterior surfaces are knurled for easy handling and larger sizes include eye bolts for additional support.
