TGM Wind re-launches cleaning service for turbines

By Michelle Froese | July 10, 2019

From the basket of a 295-ft Bronto lift, TGM Wind techs can quickly clean the hub, nacelle, and blades of a wind turbine — and much faster than a ropes team.

Kardie Equipment, A TGM Wind Services company, has re-launched its specialized wind-turbine cleaning service and expanded its cleaning capabilities. With 10 years of experience, the company offers both access and cleaning, using the largest fleet of Bronto Skylifts in North America.

TGM Wind offers its customers a choice of hand-washing or pressure-washing, both of which provide a unique set of advantages.

However, with hand-washing, TGM uses only the minimum amount of water required to ensure minimal water use or waste. This method saves significant water compared to pressure-washing. In fact, roughly five gallons of water are used to hand-clean a standard 90-meter wind turbine compared to 30 gallons typical of pressure-washing method.

Additionally, when cleaning with a power-washer, one usually starts at the top of the turbine and then all the water, dirt, and oil must be washed the full length down the turbine. Using the hand-wash method, TGM technicians are typically able to hand wipe just the top of the turbine — where most of the dirt and oil stains reside.

The company also uses only environmentally-friendly soaps and solutions for cleaning.
