Wind Turbine Performance Boosting with Custom Vortex Generator Solutions

By pcurran | June 19, 2013

upwindimage

UpWind Solutions partnered with SMART BLADE GmbH to study the design and installation process of custom Vortex Generator (VG) solutions and determined the impact on Annual Energy Production (AEP). After completing a three month performance analysis on WTGs compared to control turbines, there is clear data that supports the value of custom VGs and installation processes based on the wind turbine technology.

The research also found that the VG solution is particularly beneficial for older turbines. Considering the aerodynamic performance degradation caused by surface roughness and leading edge erosion, older wind turbines can recover most if not all of the lost energy.

Watch this webinar to learn:
– How to improve WTG performance and improve AEP by 1% to 3%
– Why each wind turbine blade needs a custom VG solution
– Determining the optimum VG placement for maximum efficiency
– How VGs can recover lost energy from surface roughness and leading edge erosion
