WindStream Technologies was established in 2008 with the goal of designing, prototyping, and manufacturing affordable and scalable renewable energy technologies for a global marketplace. The company has developed and tested the first-of-its-kind, integrated, hybrid energy solution and is now marketing and selling SolarMills to a worldwide customer base.
In 2009, the Company set up its Research and Development facilities at the Purdue Research Center in New Albany, Indiana with an academic alliance with Purdue University and a generous grant from the State of Indiana. Engineers were hired for their expertise in fluid dynamics, turbine design, power electronics and electro mechanical engineering. The Company set out to build a system that was unique in the industry focusing on a highly efficient design that was able to leverage manufacturing techniques commonly found in mass-production environments.
Upon completing many rounds of prototyping and testing, in the lab and in real world environments, WindStream set up its manufacturing facilities in 2011 in a 50,000 sq. ft. facility in North Vernon, Indiana where it currently manufactures and ships its products to customers all over the world.
The Company has recently set up its India/South Asia Operations under the name of WindStream Energy Technologies, Private Limited with the intent of servicing that part of the world with products manufactured in India under the close inspection of WindStream USA. The company will continue to manufacture and ship its products globally from its Indiana facilities.
The Company has been granted U.S. patents for its technology with a suite of additional patents both domestic and international in various stages of prosecution.
In an effort to provide more consistent energy generation than a “wind only” or “solar only” system, WindStream Technologies has developed a first-of-its-kind, fully integrated, “HYBRID” renewable energy product, The “SolarMill.” The SolarMill incorporates 3 vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) with P.V. technology within a compact footprint, creating the greatest energy density of any product on the market. The hybrid concept of the SolarMill is unique, seamlessly integrating wind and solar energy generation in a single unit. This allows the product to be an effective solution in markets where the natural resources available for wind or solar energy generation alone do not justify investment.
The SolarMill is designed to work in both on-grid and off-grid environments. Whether on the roof of a commercial building to offset rising energy costs, installed at an eco-friendly resort, or deployed in remote locations bringing power to people who’ve never had electricity, the products are designed to deliver substantial results. This unique design enables the SolarMill to be easily installed as renewable energy solutions where traditional technologies may not be deployed. SolarMills have been installed in India, helping businesses achieve mandated carbon emissions reductions, homeowners have installed the technology either to reduce monthly expenses, and/or to express their concern for the environment. With installations in the cold of Scandinavia, or in the sunny and salty Caribbean Islands, or subject to the sandy desert heat in the Middle East, SolarMills have performed as expected, providing energy to our customers worldwide.
SolarMills will operate in all kinds of environmental conditions – from the hot, dry climate of India or Africa or in the snows of Norway and Finland– the WindStream products will withstand the harshest of climates. Made of galvanized metal the products easily withstand the expansion and contraction of extreme temperature shifts as well as harsh UV rays. The turbines incorporate a mechanical braking system to protect them from over rotation, and the on-board electronics have temperature sensors that prevent the system from over voltage. The products are virtually silent and pose no threat to wildlife or the environment.
Great care and consideration has gone in to the development of the SolarMill in an effort to provide the highest quality products at an affordable price. All WindStream products come with a five year warranty and have an expected design life of greater than 20 years.
