As a supplier of components vital to a broad range of manufacturing and processing industries, NSK continues to develop environmentally preferable products. The company also offers a bearing reconditioning program that allows its customers to reduce waste and increase efficiency, and it actively supports electrification of automobiles

NSK Americas (NSK) has released the results of its 2012 sustainability initiatives, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental excellence. The year’s accomplishments show that NSK saved:

  • 30,689 trees – equivalent to 379,134,000 sheets of newspaper
  • 38,766 gallons of gasoline – enough to drive a mid-size car 1,083,600 miles
  • 747,865 gallons of oil – enough to heat 3,703 homes for a year
  • 11,306,821 gallons of water – enough to meet the daily needs of 150,747 Americans
  • 44,087,565 kWh – enough to power 5,376 homes for a year

“Our 2011 sustainability measures were a significant accomplishment,” said CEO Brian Lindsay. “The outstanding achievements in 2012 confirm that NSK’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and corporate environmental policy initiatives are producing meaningful results that benefit the global environment and health of the local communities in which we operate.”

As a contributing member of the EPA’s Wastewise program, NSK strives to meet a series of benchmarks which translate into sustainability numbers regarding how many trees, water and more that the company has saved.

“Part of NSK’s commitment to sustainability is to educate our employees about greener operational alternatives and practices and encourage them to take initiatives that support the achievement of our annual targets,” said  Environmental and Chemical Manager Marcia Fournier. As the company’s front-line green ambassador, Fournier regularly travels to NSK’s North and South American facilities to identify areas for improvement, and works with employee teams to develop initiatives to help each facility reach its annual green targets.

NSK annually celebrates Earth Day with its employees by providing earth-friendly gifts to team members which improve environmental focus all year long.

The company has advanced the bearing production processes in its manufacturing facilities by taking significant steps to, among other things, reduce scrap, increase energy efficiency, and reduce the use of harmful chemicals.

NSK’s 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report highlights its global achievements in areas such as health and wellness, carbon footprint, responsible sourcing, and environmentally friendly product development. The report also emphasizes the company’s ongoing commitment to minimize CO2 emissions through innovative technological development.
