The installation of the first two 6 MW wind turbines in the offshore wind power plant Gunfleet Sands III with the specially designed installation vessel SEA INSTALLER marks an important milestone for Siemens. The company has played a pioneering role in the challenging area of offshore installation of wind turbines. Its purpose in these endeavors is to further reduce the costs of wind energy and thereby let wind power compete with traditional energy sources. Apart from innovations such as the new gearless 6 MW wind turbine, another important factor is the systematic industrialization of offshore logistics.

We are slowly killing the planet by building these industrial machines along with green house gas emissions. The materials used to construct turbines cause CO2 emissions and how long do developers think rare earth minerals will be available competing with the car industry. How much concrete will be used to support these giant structures? Concrete is the world’s worst pollutant. They may be too high to kill birds BUT how about aircraft? It frightens me to think these machines will be dotted over land and sea ruining the environment, destroying roads, killing sea life as has happened to make minke whales beach themselves. (Turbines interfere with their communication skills) and how many people will have an early death through mining of these minerals required for turbines? IF THEY ARE SO WONDERFUL WHY do most contracts require hosts to say nothing negative for fear of litigation? Why is it that over 46,000 US scientists do not believe in global warming. It seems over 175 people have frozen to death in Europe this winter, while the so-called warmer weather is supposed to be killing off grass, plant life etc. especially Australia which is experiencing so much flooding.
