Photoblog: Windpower innovation on Martha’s Vineyard

By Steven Bushong | November 25, 2013

Siemens

Siemens Industry provided the generator and inverter for Sky Farm. This pairing of Siemens and Eastern Wind Power is interesting because of the relative size of the companies. Eastern Wind Power has only four employees. Siemens, however, was looking to develop a prototype small wind inverter, and chose to partner with Eastern Wind Power for the quality of its turbine, scale and market niche. The 55-kw Siemens smart inverter with internal regenerative drive system (for power regeneration under deceleration) is programmed to match the blade properties of the HAWT. The inverter output is 480 volt, 3-phase 60 Hz, but is convertible to 50 Hz and other voltages.
